Engineering Club Solar Car Success

Due to circumstances beyond their control, the WA Solar Car Challenge could not be run this year. However with some help from the Australian Institute of Energy, Southern River College and John Forrest Secondary College held their own little solar car competition at the Southern River Campus on Friday 14 November2025.  Many thanks to Beau Logue and the staff and students at Southern River College for hosting the event and looking after us so well.  A great time was had by all.

A total of 12 cars were raced on the day.  All the teams showed some great engineering skills to get their cars to the racetrack to compete.  Many of the teams managed to make substantial improvements to their cars over the course of the day, while others had to rebuild theirs, sometimes from scratch, after some spectacular crashes.  After a round robin competition the teams were ranked and then raced off in a shootout style elimination competition. John Forrest took out first and second place on the day with Southern River taking third.
