Girls in Non-Traditional Trades - Clean Energy Career Taster
Females are highly valued employees in traditionally male dominated trades in Western Australia and increasingly there are incentives for women to engage in these trades. Accordingly, North Metro TAFE recently hosted a group of Year 9 and 10 students at a Girls in Non-Traditional Trades - Clean Energy - Career Taster.
The girls completed several hands-on electrotechnology activities using some of the equipment and terminology of electrical trades and made connections with their Mathematics learning in the classroom at school.
They learned about the range of qualifications available on site, via a Balga campus tour, and heard from young Rio Tinto female electrotechnology apprentices about their experiences as women working in a male dominated field.
