On Country Expedition to Nowanup

Our students went on the On Country expedition to Nowanup facilitated by RAW Impact, which they have described as an 'unforgettable experience'

12 students from Year 9 and 10 embarked on a journey that deeply connected us with the land and our Elders.

They were able to immerse themselves in yarning circles around a campfire, where they shared stories, listened and reflected on others. Throughout the trip, they built stronger connections with each other and with country.  Uncle Euy, a Goreng-Menang Elder, brough the students around for cultural walks, where he shared his deep and spiritual knowledge of the land and its healing powers. Auntie Eliza and her daughter Lynette shared stories of their lived experiences, detailing the unjust realities of growing up Indigenous in Australia.

The students also worked on infrastructure projects and contributed to making future student camps possible and sustainable. 
The trip culminated in a debrief and reflection in Albany, where we absorbed the lessons learned and cherished the bonds formed.

This expedition was more than a trip; it was a journey of cultural awareness and appreciation, and personal growth.
