NAIDOC Week 2025
Throughout week 3 Term 3 the College officially marked our NAIDOC week celebrations.
The week commenced with a whole school assembly where Uncle Vaughan McGuire delivered a Welcome to Country. The staff and students were deeply engaged and listened attentively, appreciating the depth of history and connection that Aboriginal people have. Following the Welcome to Country, we had Ash Garlett-Penfold from Corroboree For Life with a group of dancers performing traditional dances.
This year’s theme is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy. Senior students, Kauri Murray-Ranui and Kaleirah Du-Pont provided information on the history of NAIDOC week and explained the importance of recognising history, celebrating culture, education, and awareness. Quote from Kauri – “We are the leaders of tomorrow, and understanding our shared history and culture is crucial for a better, united Australia”.
One of the things to keep in mind is that NAIDOC Week is not just about Aboriginal people, it’s about all of us. It’s about reconciliation and understanding. It’s about moving forward together in a way that respects and celebrates all cultures. This is especially important in schools, where we can create an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen and heard.
Throughout the week students celebrated with face painting, braiding and gumnut painting stations.
On Thursday the College hosted a NAIDOC Basketball game against Kiara College.
The week concluded with a Staff Deadly Damper Competition and a Staff verses Students game of Marngrook
It has been a wonderful week to remember and aligned with the 2025 theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
