2023 Year 10 Work Experience

In Week 8 Term 2, up to 150 Year 10 students from John Forrest Secondary College (JFSC) participated in a week-long Work Experience program. Designed to give students an opportunity to engage in the world of work, the Program aims to broaden student exposure to potential future pathways as well as refine their understanding of interests and disinterests.

Students attended an array of workplaces in a variety of industries. They gained exposure to pathways and further clarity to Senior School subject selections.

Reasons for Students to do Work Experience!

  1. Builds confidence, motivation, and initiative.
  2. You are meeting new people/friends, networking!
  3. It improves your communication skills, you find out about your strengths and weaknesses.
  4. Students on work experience learn more about the world of work.
  5. Helps you with making your pathway decisions; you may have thought you always wanted to be in that industry, and now have changed your mind.
  6. Gives you enthusiasm to be successful at school and achieve goals.
  7. You are away from the school curriculum learning new skills.
  8. Work experience builds your resume, you can receive glowing references, even new tickets, certificates and licences.

Reasons for Employers to offer students Work Experience!

  1. It helps their other employees, they can learn about supervision, leadership and mentoring, great on their resume for promotion.
  2. Good branding for the company.
  3. Helps you spot future talent.
  4. Students build enthusiasm and often come up with new ideas.
  5. Recruitment strategy, looking to hire Trainees/Apprentices.
  6. Helps students mature, develop skills and build work readiness.
  7. Helping the community.

The Work Experience Program takes immense organisation from students, parents, employers and staff.
